Did the bubble broke or not?
Before moving to the main section, let’s talk about the incidents that have occurred in the past few days.
India lost the first test match of the series by 8 wickets. India scored 36 runs in the second innings of that match. It was really a shameful defeat.
India made a fresh start in the second test of the series. They could defeat Australia by 8 wickets in the boxing day test match. (Refer to this article to understand the boxing-day test)
At the start of this year, someone posted on Twitter about paying for the food bills of Indian cricketers. The person also mentioned in his tweet that Rishabh Pant hugged him before leaving. The cricketers were Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Prithvi Shaw, and Navdeep Saini.
This was clearly a breach of bio-secure bubble protocol. Both BCCI and CA started investigating the matter. Before the investigation was complete, the Australian media took the matter into their hands. They circulated another photo of Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya. They were standing outside a shop.
According to the investigations, no bio-bubble breach happened in the first place. All the players were standing outside a restaurant and it started to drizzle. They moved into the restaurant but maintained proper social-distancing. Secondly, the fan who posted on Twitter admitted that Pant never hugged him. He tweeted those things in sheer excitement.
Also, the owner of the shop where Kohli and Pandya went issued a statement. The owner mentioned that both the players maintained social-distancing. They didn’t even shake the hands with the staff at the store. Also, masks were not compulsory at that time in New South Wales.
Finally, all the staff and players tested negative for covid-19.
The relationship between India and Sydney Cricket Ground
India has played 12 matches at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Out of these 12, India has won only 1 match. This win came in the year 1978. Since then either India has lost the match or the match ended in a draw. In fact, the last two matches at the ground also ended in a draw.
The last time India played at the Sydney Cricket Ground, Pujara scored 193 and Pant scored 159.
On 6th January 2008, one of the most controversial test matches was played at the Sydney Cricket Ground. India and Australia played the third test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at SCG. The match saw some brilliant batting and bowling performances. Andrew Symonds, VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, Matthew Hayden, and Michael Hussey scored a hundred. But the match is known for all the notorious reasons. Firstly, there were too many umpiring blunders and to add to that there was the monkey-gate scandal. Australia was able to defeat India by 122 runs. This was Australia’s 16 consecutive test match victory. This is a record which has been achieved by Australia twice. First, under the leadership of Steve Waugh and then under Ricky Ponting.
The equation is simple, India will be looking for a win after 42 years and Australia will try to maintain their streak. The pitch is a batting heaven and we might see a high-scoring match.
India has announced its squad. Rohit Sharma is replacing Mayank Agarwal, while Navdeep Saini will be making his debut. Saini would be replacing injured Umesh Yadav.

Rishabh Pant (wk)
Australia didn’t announce their squad by the time I wrote this article. It looks like David Warner will be back in the squad and he would be replacing Joe Burns. There are talks that Will Pucovski will also make his debut. It would be interesting to see whom he would be going to replace in the squad. Travis Head or Matthew Wade might lose their position.
This would be an interesting match to watch. Spinners will play an important role in the latter part of the game. We have five exciting days ahead of us.
